European aluminium foil industry with moderate growth in 2025 despite weaker year-end
The European aluminium foil industry recorded a moderate market recovery in 2025. Following the marked stabilisation seen in 2024, demand developed positively overall, although momentum weakened over the course of the year and the fourth quarter in particular proved more subdued.
New Alliance to Boost Recycling Performance of Small Aluminium Packaging
The European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA), together with partner organisation Flexible Packaging Europe (FPE), is establishing a European alliance with a clear, overarching objective: to significantly enhance the recycling performance of small aluminium packaging – including coffee capsules. The alliance aims to create the conditions needed to ensure that these packaging formats can be collected, sorted and recycled at high quality and scale across Europe.
Aluminium foil market in the third quarter of 2025: weaker European demand, exports support overall performance
Following a strong first half of the year, the latest figures from the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) show a slowdown in growth in European demand for aluminium foil in the third quarter of 2025. Total deliveries from July to September amounted to 225,100 tonnes, representing a moderate increase of 2.2% compared with the same period last year. Domestic deliveries within Europe rose by only 0.6%, while exports to non-European countries provided a strong boost with growth of 14.3%. Overall, total shipments in the first nine months of the year reached 702,300 tonnes, an increase of 5.4% year-on-year.

European aluminium industry publishes Design for Recyclability Guidelines for Packaging containing Aluminium
The European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA), together with partner associations (European Aluminium, Aluminium Closures Group, Metal Packaging Europe, etma and AEROBAL) involved in aluminium packaging, has published a new framework for packaging design: the Design for Recyclability Guidelines and Recyclability Assessment for Packaging containing Aluminium. The aim is to ensure that packaging design facilitates efficient recycling at the end of the life cycle.
Aluminium foil market in Q2 2025: European demand softens, exports remain strong
Following an exceptionally dynamic start to the year, European aluminium foil rollers saw a more moderate growth rate in the second quarter of 2025. According to the latest figures from the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA), total deliveries between April and June reached 236,500 tonnes, representing a 4.2% increase compared to the same quarter of the previous year. While shipments to markets outside Europe continued to grow significantly by +20.3%, growth within Europe was noticeably more restrained at +2.4%.
