The members and their products

The European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) is made up of more than 120 members from 24 countries throughout Western, Central and Eastern Europe. The membership comprises foil rollers (in all thicknesses up to 0.2mm - the ISO standard maximum), manufacturers of aluminium foil containers, household foil and all kind of flexible packaging: Founded in 1974 it has its roots in associations dating back to the 1920s. Today EAFA comprises:

ROLLER GROUP members are the originators and suppliers of the plain aluminium foil and thin strip materials which are then processed by converters, container or household foil manufacturers. They represent 97% of the alufoil rolling capacity in Western, Central and Eastern Europe.

CONTAINER GROUP, which represents about 82% of the foil container manufacturing capacity in Europe, specialises in the manufacture of foil trays and dishes as well as lidding materials and systems which help their customers, food processors and retailers, pack and present their products to the public.

REWINDER GROUP  members are the producers of aluminium household foil for the retailing sector as well as for catering. They represent approximately 75 % of European production. In direct contact with the end-consumers their products are public symbols for the aluminium foil industry.

FLEXIBLE PACKAGING EUROPE (FPE) members represent companies that manufacture all types of flexible packaging including pouches, sachets, liquid packaging, confectionery and pharmaceutical packaging applications, and much more. FPE comprises all major European producers of flexible packaging for all materials.

The association's activities on behalf of its members include the compilation and sharing of statistical information, market research, generic PR, and promoting aluminium foil and developing the interests of the foil manufacturing and converting industry with third parties. Sustainability issues are high on the agenda for both aluminium foil and flexible packaging and activities include environmental lobbying for flexible packaging on European level. Food contact is another area in which the association is active.

The association compiles and issues regular statistics covering European shipments of aluminium foil. Promotional media include the annual competition ‘Alufoil Trophy', the newsletter ‘Infoil' published several times annually in five languages, the two page information leaflet series ‘Alufoil File' and the very information-rich websites - www.alufoil.org and www.flexpack-europe.org.

EAFA is active is promoting the European foil and flexible packaging industry internationally and creating relationships with sister associations around the globe.

On request, initiatives are undertaken by the association to help members with the threats and stresses of the business and legislative environment. Generic market research sets benchmarks for the promotion and development of market sectors.
